What is a Boodle Fight?
A boodle fight is a gathering of friends and family where a spread of food is placed on top of banana leaves. Instead of sitting down people stand shoulder to shoulder in a line on both sides of the table and water jugs are placed on the side used for washing hands before the "fight" happens. This is NOT fine dining.
What is the cultural history of the Boodle Fight?
This Kamayan feast (bear hand-eating) originated from the Philippine military where a big pile of food is served in the middle of a long table or mess hall. Hungry soldiers would eat with their hands to symbolize camaraderie, brotherhood, and equality in the military. The "fight" in the name refers to the act of grabbing and eating as much as the soldier can before others would grab it. Slow is NOT the way to go, otherwise you'll find yourself with an empty stomach!

Hello!

We are the Filipinx American Student Association! Our organization meets in-person every Thursday from 7:00-8:00pm in the Kirkhof Center. We're made to spread the enriching history, tradition, and knowledge of Filipino culture in a community that is fun and entertaining. While we promote the understanding of Filipinx/Filipinx-American identities we are an inclusive group that values friendship and an enjoyable atmosphere. On a more serious note, we are working to shed light on issues including the economy, discourse, and discrimination that stems from the Philippines. While this will be our first year as an organization we have many future events in store to make it a fulfilling experience! Please stop by if you're interested (and bring a friend or two)! We'd love to see you there!

Please contact any of our E-board members for any questions. See you soon!
