Online
Faculty
These two sessions are adapted from the Entering Mentoring series developed by the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Research (CIMER). Entering Mentoring is an evidence-based, interactive approach designed to help mentors develop skills for engaging in productive, culturally responsive, research mentoring relationships—relationships that optimize the success of both mentors and mentees. The Entering Mentoring curriculum provides mentors with an intellectual framework, an opportunity to experiment with various mentoring techniques, and a forum for addressing mentoring dilemmas with support from fellow faculty. Prior attendance at GVSU Entering Mentoring sessions is not required.
As a result of this session, mentors will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Define core elements of independence and how these elements change over the course of a mentoring relationship
- Employ various strategies to establish trust and foster mentee independence
- Create an environment in which mentees can achieve their goals
