Create Revolutionary Love with the raised fist symbol for solidarity within a heart. "Any act to change the world around us begins within us." - Valarie Kaur

Inspired by Valarie Kaur's recent lecture at GVSU? Interested in learning more? Join us!

The Kaufman Interfaith Institute and University Libraries are hosting a workshop, building upon the recent inspiring visit of civil rights activist, lawyer, author, filmmaker, and warrior woman, Valarie Kaur. We’ll discuss Valarie's work, her central concept of  revolutionary love , and the process of building “beloved community". Together, we will unpack the idea of love as a force for social justice, beginning with love for others, then for opponents, and finally for ourselves.

Join us for a casual conversation and brainstorming session about how to institute the Revolutionary Love Project at GVSU.

No prior knowledge or experience is necessary. Come as you are and bring your unique perspective to the table.

Tea, coffee, and water will be provided. Registration is optional.

Schedule for each session:

About the author: VALARIE KAUR  is a renowned civil rights leader, lawyer, award-winning filmmaker, educator, innovator, and best-selling author of SEE NO STRANGER. She leads the Revolutionary Love Project to reclaim love as a force for justice. Valarie burst into American consciousness in the wake of the 2016 election when her Watch Night Service address went viral with 40 million views worldwide. Her question “Is this the darkness of the tomb – or the darkness of the womb?” reframed the political moment and became a mantra for people fighting for change.

See Valarie Kaur's portrait in the on-campus exhibition, Activate: Shepard Fairey and the Art of Protest, and 'bring it to life' with the Amplifier AR app.
