Confident Outdoor Climber Series - Climbing Anchors

Tuesday, February 15, 2022
6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Allendale Campus
Faculty, Staff, Students

The skills presented in this workshop will give climbers a foundation of anchor building knowledge that can be used in many climbing applications. This course will focus on the equipment and techniques necessary to build a quality anchor, using natural protection (e.g. trees) at a few of our most popular nearby crags: the Ledges (Grand Ledge, MI), Devil's Lake State Park (Baraboo, WI), & Munising, MI (ice climbing at the Pictured Rocks). The first is a top-rope only site while the latter two require climbers to either setup a top-rope or lead the climbs. This course does not include placing traditional protection but the anchoring concepts covered will apply to pro-based anchors too.

Format: Hybrid online/ in-person. Online content for this workshop will be made available to participants & is expected to be reviewed prior to the in-person meeting.

Cost: $10 students; $35 faculty/ staff
