Dr. Alexandra Jones

Join us on Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:00 PM, 164 Lake Ontario Hall, for a fascinating conversation with Dr. Alexandra Jones!

Dr. Jones will discuss sustainable archaeological methods in community archaeology engagement as a way of empowering the communities in which she works. This methodology has allowed her to train future professional archaeologists and citizens about the importance of collaborative archaeology. She will discuss her activism and research through Archaeology in the Community; her work at the Morningstar Tabernacle No.88 Moses Cemetery in Cabin John, MD; and her research and outreach at the Estate Little Princess Archaeological Project in St. Croix, USVI.

More information about Dr. Jones: Alexandra Jones is an Assistant Professor of Practice in History and Anthropology at Goucher College. At Goucher, she will also lead the Hallowed Ground Project, which studies and recognizes the role of slavery and racism in the history of the land the college currently occupies. Her work focuses on African Diaspora Archaeology, Community Archaeology and archaeology outreach. Jones has been an educator for more than 18 years and previously taught at Baltimore City Community College and the University of Baltimore. She also worked for the PBS television show Time Team America as the Archaeology Field School Director, where she directed field schools for junior high and high school students at each of the sites.
