A Traditional Powwow is a gathering and celebration of Native American culture through ceremony, song, dance, feasting, and socializing. Traditional pow wows include dancers, drum groups, invited Elders, Veterans, and other honored guests to perform and participate in the celebration. The main host, the Native American Student Association has worked in strong collaboration with the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Division of Inclusion and Equity to plan and coordinate this large-scale event. In addition, NASA has strong support from the local West Michigan Native American community in ensuring that the event is successful and respectful of traditional Native culture. The number of student participants has been steadily increasing every year, and the community interest is high. For many students, this may be their first time attending an event like this, or it may represent their first time re-entering the community in this way since the pandemic.
