The Roger That! symposium is a celebration of space exploration, named in honor of Grand Rapids astronaut Roger B. Chaffee. The theme for 2023 is "History and Space," and Astronaut Jose Hernadez is the keynote speaker, 6:30-7:30pm in the Loosemore Auditorium (also live-streamed). Hernadez's inspirational journey from growing up in a family of farmworkers, being the first in his family to attend college, and eventually becoming a NASA astronaut is the subject of the upcoming movie, A Million Miles Away. His presentation is appropriate for all ages and is open to the public free of charge. Preceding the keynote, all-ages hands-on workshops begin at 4:30pm, and an open reception at 5:30pm offers public viewing of Design That! projects from local 4th - 8th graders. From  8:30am to 3:30pm, experts from around the world offer online presentations on various aspects of space exploration (appropriate for high schoolers and above), while Grand Rapids Public Museum offers field trips for K8 students.  Registration is appreciated for in-person attendance and required to obtain the links for the online presentations; registration and additional details (including the schedule with descriptions of the online presentations) are available at www.gvsu.edu/rogerthat.
