The Global Gathering is back! Have an impact on your local community by volunteering some of your time on Saturday September 13th, 2025. This event is located at Garfield Park in Grand Rapids..

This vibrant annual festival celebrates the cultures, cuisines, and stories that make our community strong. Join neighbors from across Kent County for a joyful day filled with cultural performances, hands-on workshops, family-friendly activities, and global cuisine.

Volunteers Needed for the 2025 Global Gathering Grand Rapids!

Your time commitments for volunteering are short – in some cases only a couple hours-  but your impact on your community can be great.  To see the Global Gatherings website, go to: https://kentcountynewamericans.org/global-gathering/

Volunteerism is important for many reasons:

  • It shows what you value – in this case, caring for your community and others.
  • Improve your Intercultural Competency – meet new people from the many diasporas from the Grand Rapids area.
  • Events of this nature are a great way to build your resume. Volunteering shows initiative, commitment, civic responsibility, and community engagement. Employers often like to see volunteer activities on your resume.
  • Networking Opportunities – there will be many organizations from the Grand Rapids Area. Meet professionals who work in the field. These can be future internship and employment opportunities.
  • Meet fellow GVSU students at the event.
  • Helping others gives you a sense of purpose and belonging and builds your confidence levels.

If you have any questions, please contact Brian Johnson, the Human Rights Program Coordinator at [email protected]. Dr. Johnson will be at the event all day.
