ERP Program Speaker Series Featuring ASUG 1/30/2017

January 30, 2017

This meeting began at 6:04 p.m. in the Seidman Forum. This meeting was our first ERP Speaker Series of the semester. This week we hosted Americas' SAP Users' Group (ASUG) as well as some ESSU alumni.

Professor Magal kicked things off with an introduction of our student organization. He then talked about the history of ESSU and how it was formed. Professor Magal noted how it was a group of former Grand Valley students who came together with a desire to form an ERP-related student organization for networking and professional development opportunities. Three of the original founding members were in attendance for this meeting; David Herremea (Wolverine Worldwide), Eric Koch (Deloitte, and Alissa Dornbos (Amway). The each gave a short speech on the opportunities that ESSU gave them and they shared some memories from the ERP program. Professor Magal then recognized the hard work from ESSU’s current E-board members and faculty.

The second part of the Speaker Series featured ASUG. Geoff Scott, ASUG CEO, was happy to come speak to students and talk about their new partnership with ESSU as its newly affiliated professional organization. He spoke highly of Grand Valley’s ERP/SAP program and said is one of the best programs among universities. Geoff encouraged students to be experts in their field and take part in organizations like ASUG. SAP is ran by 80% of companies worldwide and 50% of that is in North America. Geoff explained how SAP is used by global companies. He stressed out business leads technology. Geoff talked about his SAP deployment experience as well as his current job at ASUG where his priority is trying to have members get the most value from their SAP investment. Next Casey Condon, an ASUG Leadership Engagement Associate talked about ASUG’s Academy Cube which is a talent and education online platform that connects students, companies, and training. He then gave a quick demo showing the types of SAP training modules offered.

Finally, before concluding the ceremony, Geoff present Seidman Dean Diana Lawson with an official certificate of professional affiliation with ASUG. ESSU will now include the ASUG logo in its logo. This is important accomplishment for our organization! Time for networking was held afterwards. The presentation concluded at 6:51 p.m.
