Welcome to the Center for Undergraduate Scholar Engagement

The Center for Undergraduate Scholar Engagement (CUSE) serves students interested in pursuing academic and creative experiences and projects outside the classroom. CUSE houses the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS) and the Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships. Together we have a mission to provide students with the opportunity to conduct research, apply for competitive inter/national fellowship/scholarships to fund study abroad, post-graduate opportunities, and more.

Interested in making the most of your undergraduate experience at Grand Valley? Seeking opportunities to pursue research, immerse yourself in language study, pursue a competitive internship, prepare well for graduate or professional school - or for gap-year experiences after graduation like Peace Corps or a Fulbright?  We can help!

FELLOWSHIPS

FREDERIK MEIJER OFFICE OF FELLOWSHIPS

We are the Center for Undergraduate Scholar Engagement… What do we do?

  • We support students' paths to success in college and beyond.
  • We connect students with campus resources and opportunities.
  • We encourage academic achievement.
  • We guide students toward high-impact experiences such as undergraduate research, study abroad, internships, competitive fellowships, community service and post-commencement gap-year opportunities such as international volunteerism (Peace Corps and more) and teaching English abroad on the Fulbright and other government-sponsored, competitive ETA programs.
  • We recognize, support and celebrate students as developing intellectual beings who are seeking through immersive, experiential learning opportunities not just to study a discipline but to become practitioners of that discipline, to become chemists, poets,  political scientists, etc., rather than observers of a field of knowledge, to become increasingly competent members of the knowledge community, not passive consumers of knowledge generated by others.
