Community Based Learning Across Generations

This poster will present the details and benefits of an intergenerational community-based learning class that was developed for Recreational Therapy majors with an area non-profit organization and a home and community-based company. The course teaches students about everything from conditions and diagnoses that older adults experience to interventions that Recreational Therapists use. The partnership includes a minimum of 7 weeks of class at a retirement community where undergraduate students and older adults come together to learn with and from each other. Additionally, the two groups work together to learn and practice interventions like falls prevention exercises, technology, and aquatic therapy. Both students and older adults have raved about the experience.
