What projects did you take part in during your internship?

During this internship my main project was looking at carbon burial in different types of wetland soil. Which involved going out into these ecosystems and taking different cores. I also worked with the Muskegon Public Health Department to monitor both inland and Lake Michigan beaches for E. coli. My final project involved working on the research vessel’s doing out reach with different K-12 groups.

How did you get the internship?

I heard about this internship from the monthly emails sent out by the Chemistry Department around January. The application process was very straight forward and simple. They asked for a resume along with a short essay detailing any previous academic experience as well as any other interests or experiences with water and water resources. They also provided all possible principle invesigators that I could work with and asked me to rank each one based on what interests I had and how that lined up with current projects in that lab.
