Bachelor of Music

The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) is designed for students who demonstrate exceptional preparation for college-level applied music and for whom graduate school is a realistic goal. Instruction in guitar, organ, piano, voice, and band and orchestral instruments is offered.

All Bachelor of Music students will need to complete the core courses, as well as requirements specific to their emphasis. Student's emphasis will be approved at the music department auditions.

Bachelor of Music with Instrumental Emphasis (Credits: 86 to 87)
Bachelor of Music with Keyboard Emphasis (Credits: 84 to 85)
Bachelor of Music with Vocal Emphasis (Credits: 88 to 89)

Requirements for a Major in Music

Music Theory and Aural Perception (Credits: 21 to 22)

AND one course from:

Music Literature and History (Credits: 12 to 15)

AND two courses from: (BM vocal emphasis students only take one course)

Conducting (Credits: 2)

Applied Music (Credits: 24)

Chamber Music (Credits: 1)

Instrumental Emphasis

Major Ensembles (Credits: 8)

To be selected according to major instrument and may be repeated for credit:

Pedagogy and Literature (Credits: 4)

Keyboard Musicianship (Credits: 3)

Music Electives (Credits: 8)

Selected after consultation with an advisor.

Keyboard Emphasis

Major Ensembles (Credits: 2)

All of the following may be repeated for credit:

Collaborative Piano (Credits: 7)

Seven semesters of MUS 126. MUS 126 counts as co-requisite ensemble credit for applied lessons for B.M. keyboard emphasis majors.

Vocal Emphasis
