FRE 421 - Medieval Knights, Monsters, and Ladies Who Misbehave

A study of representative works of French medieval literature, including poetry, courtly romance, fables, farces, and theater. The course explores a world of noble knights, monstrous foes, and unruly ladies, examining how these figures reflect medieval ideas about heroism, desire, gender, and morality. Offered fall semester of even-numbered years. Prerequisites: C or better in all core curriculum courses (FRE 315, FRE 317, and FRE 318) and either FRE 321, FRE 322, or FRE 323, or permission of instructor.
