Master of Health Sciences in Biomedical Sciences

The graduate program offers a Master of Health Sciences (M.H.S.) in biomedical sciences degree through which students can pursue multiple career opportunities. The program, built on a graduate core requirement, is designed in cooperation with the student's graduate committee to meet individual career goals in research, doctoral study, as well as health and allied health programs.

The program is designed to accommodate either part- or full-time students.

Admission

To be admitted into the M.H.S. in biomedical sciences, the following is required:

  • GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from all undergraduate courses
  • Satisfactory score from the GRE (General Test), MCAT, or DAT
  • Names and contact information for three references
  • Completion of undergraduate courses in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and statistics
  • Coursework in chemistry is highly recommended

Requirements

1. Core Requirements

Students must complete a minimum of 33 semester hour credits, including the biomedical sciences graduate core (14 credits) and formal thesis (six credits).

2. Electives

Requires at least 13 credits. Courses to fulfill the elective credits are selected with guidance from the graduate program director. Graduate courses both within and outside of biomedical sciences can be selected if deemed appropriate and aligned with the student's career goals. Some of the more common electives include:

3. Comprehensive Written Examination

Successful completion of a comprehensive written examination is required after all didactic coursework has been taken. Students who fail any part of the exam may take another exam within 18 months of the original effort.
