COM 271 - History of Communications Technologies

Introduces students to historical impacts communication technologies have had in shaping and sustaining civilization and modernity. Examines communicative media as extensions of the human habitat, and critically considers their social and personal consequences. At least half of the course focuses on media prior to the telegraph. Offered winter semesters. Prerequisite: COM 101.
