Undergraduate Certificate in Advanced Energy

The advanced energy industries seek engineering and science graduates with a sound engineering or science education augmented with knowledge of energy as applied to advanced energy systems for electrified vehicles and power management. The advanced energy certificate caters to undergraduate science students and non-degree seeking students with the appropriate pre-requisite knowledge and undergraduate students in any major under the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) degree. This certificate provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to these growing industries and their job markets.

A certificate is not a major, or a minor, but an official endorsement of completion of a set of related courses focused on a specific field. At least two certificate courses must be completed at GVSU. A course in a certificate program may not be used to meet the course requirements of more than one certificate. Provided that all prerequisites are previously completed, this certificate program may ordinarily be completed in two to three semesters.

To earn an undergraduate certificate, students must be admitted to an undergraduate certificate program and complete a set of required courses with a grade of at least "C" in each of these courses. The admission requirements for this undergraduate certificate are: admission to the B.S.E. program, as stated in the catalog, or possession of suitable pre-requisite knowledge and either non-degree seeking status or admission to a B.S. program, as stated in the catalog. Students who are not enrolled in an undergraduate degree program must apply for admission to the undergraduate certificate program after completing their first certificate course. Appropriate courses in this certificate may be applied toward completion of a B.S.E. or B.S degree.

Certificate Courses

Students earn the undergraduate certificate by successfully completing three certificate courses (9 credits) chosen from:

  • EGR 477 - Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Battery Systems
