EGR 209 - Mechanics and Machines
Forces and moment, equilibrium, Free Body Diagrams. Introduction of machine elements: gears, belts, chains, shafts. Stress/strain: normal and shear stresses due to bending and torsion. Design and analysis of welds, fasteners: bolts and rivets in engineering structures. Principles of mechanical design: synthesis and selection methods of basic off-the-shelf machine components. Offered fall, spring/summer semesters. Prerequisites: MTH 202 and PHY 230. Admitted ZEGR or permit.
