HST 336 - Africa After 1870

The course will focus on specific themes related to European conquest of Africa and the transformation of selected African cultures under colonial rule. Topics include: scramble for partition, military conquest, missionary activity, colonial economy and social changes, genocide and forced labor, resistance and nationalism, decolonization and liberation. Offered winter semester, odd numbered years. Prerequisites: HST 204 or HST 235 or junior standing.
