HST 376 - History of Witches

Examines the wave of witch trials in Europe and New England in the 16th and 17th centuries, from its origins in medieval Christianity and folklore to the Salem witch trials of 1692, from a variety of perspectives, with emphasis on the marginalization of the accused witches within their communities. Part of Marginality and Difference theme. Offered fall and winter semesters. Prerequisites: Completion of Historical Perspectives Foundation or junior standing.
