HST 370 - History of Medicine and Health

Survey of medical and health-related topics from ancient Greece through the present. Course units will include disease migration, unorthodox medicine, professionalization, sanitary science, bacteriology, medicalization of deviance, nursing, philanthropy, gender, colonialism, environmental/industrial medicine, Medicare/Medicaid, and AIDS. A supplemental writing skills course. Part of Health, Illness, and Healing theme. Offered fall and winter semesters. Prerequisites: Completion of Historical Perspectives Foundation or junior standing.
