HST 334 - The Making of the Caribbean

A survey of Caribbean history from the pre-colonial era to the rise of nationalism and independence. Course will emphasize specific islands and will cover a wide range of topics, such as the rise of the plantation system, slavery and emancipation, cultural retention, resistance, migration, and inter-regional relations. Offered fall semester, even-numbered years. Prerequisites: HST 204 or junior standing.
