GVSU's GenCyber camp is a one-week introduction to Cybersecurity for high school students. This camp is designed for beginners; no prior knowledge of cybersecurity is expected or required. Students will learn fundamental cybersecurity concepts through hands-on activities and group discussion, with lecture components as needed to introduce the necessary concepts. Campers will be supported in these activities by GVSU faculty and current GVSU students. Specific planned topics include:

  • Network Reconnaissance/Scanning
  • System hardening
  • DNS Pharming
  • Access Control
  • Cyber-safety
  • Cybersecurity Ethics
  • Cryptography
  • Steganography
  • Password Cracking
  • Digital Forensics

All campers will be expected to participate in a further 18 hours of pre-camp activities to prepare for the camp and 12 hours of post-camp activities to reinforce the concepts learned at the camp. These activities will be held online via zoom. Students who are on the wait list for the camp will also be invited to participate in these activities. Further information on these activities can be found on our camp information page.

Filling out the registration for this camp should be considered as an application to participate. Space is limited to 34 participants. As part of the application process, you will need to upload a 1-page statement describing your interest in the camp and future career goals.
