Description

The Young Pis Summer Scholar program's goal is to introduce high school students to lab techniques and research methods. Over the course of a week-long summer camp, students will complete labs based on biomedical sciences, biology, physics, and chemistry. High school students will be paired with an undergraduate mentor and be able to discuss research, college life, and how they can best prepare to excel when they reach the university level.
The camp will also include a community tour of Grand Rapids based research institutes, exploring careers based on the exploration of STEM.
Participants will be engaging in lab activities and must wear long pants and closed toes shoes. Lab activities will take place Monday - Thursday, 10am-3pm, with a research poster created on Thursday to be displayed Friday. Friday they will not be working in the lab but will have a poster showcase with food provided from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
