Preprofessional Studies (Predental)
Predental students gain the strong foundation on which to build their studies at a dental school, leading to successful careers in the burgeoning health industry.
Dental schools accept students with a variety of different majors. Predental students at GVSU may choose any major while completing the prerequisite coursework they need to score well on the Dental Admission Test (DAT). Grand Valley students are exceptionally competitive with those applying from other institutions. For Fall 2016, 64% of Grand Valley students were accepted to dental school on their first application. The advising team looks forward to helping you achieve your dream of dental school!
Grand Valley's predental program offers all the courses necessary to gain admission to dental school and prepare fully for the DAT, including:
- Anatomy and physiology
- General chemistry
- Organic chemistry
- Social sciences and humanities
Predental studies prepares students for dental school, and they go on to hold positions such as:
- General Dentist
- Oral Surgeon

“I was able to distinguish myself from other candidates by being on the executive board for the Grand Valley Predental Club - very involved in that organization.”

“One thing I have noticed during my first year at dental school, is that Grand Valley State University's Biomedical Science Department does a great job of getting you ready for professional school science classes. My first term course was in head and neck anatomy. I found myself tutoring several individuals during the lab sessions.”
