Sustainable Community Development Initiative

Sustainability Reinvestment Fund

..............................................................

for students, faculty, and staff

The Reinvestment Fund has been established with the contributions of many departments and auxiliaries including Finance and Administration, Campus Dining, Bookstore, Student Senate, and Sustainable Community Development Initiative. Faculty and students will have access to grants and loans for sustainable development projects both on campus and in the community. The goal of the fund is to support localized model projects that can be replicated across the university in support of the university’s goal to be a national leader in sustainable practice.

  • Sustainable development projects will be screened during an application process.

  • Progress reports will be required.

  • Efficiencies, cost savings, created value will be generated for each project with a portion of value created being reinvested in the fund for future projects.

A standing reinvestment fund sub committee has been established including students, faculty, staff, and administration team members to approve project requests and monitor overall project progress and results.

Grants:

  • Grants will be provided for projects that generate on-going savings or other advantages to the university as a whole (i.e. energy, printing costs, increased recycling, etc.). Recipients of funding will not be expected to repay the grant to the fund. They will be expected to provide a report to the committee and information to other units who wish to replicate the project.

The SCDI will disseminate the results and successes of funded projects to the university community on the web and in other ways to encourage replication and other related projects.

The SCDI will prepare an annual report to the University leadership on activities of the fund, results of projects, estimated savings and impact on university sustainability efforts.  The SCDI will make requests to the Budget Committee for additional funding if appropriate.
