The Journalism major, with a focus on public affairs reporting, offers a broadly based education in which the study of journalism is grounded in the liberal arts. This emphasis on critical thinking and historical perspective embraces the fundamental principle that a free press and an informed citizenry is essential for the success of a representative democracy. The major also offers the challenge of entering the job market as prepared, professional journalists. It offers the career gateway skills of reporting, writing, and editing. In addition, journalism student majors are encouraged to develop depth outside of journalism in such areas as computer science, economics, political science and sociology. |
