Q: What is a Liberal Studies degree?
A: The Liberal Studies degree is an interdisciplinary degree, which means that it involves multiple areas of study. All Liberal Studies students take the same core courses, but work with an advisor to develop a personalized interdisciplinary emphasis area.

Q: What types of jobs can I get with a Liberal Studies degree?
A: The careers that Liberal Studies graduates pursue are as diverse as their study plans! Liberal Studies graduates are working in management,      education, international business, art museums, non-profit organizations, the Peace Corps, health fields, and more. Many Lib Studies graduates have gone on to graduate school in fields such as education, law, business, social work, philosophy, and public administration.

Q: How do I work with two institutions at one time?
A: It’s easy! You will work with the same advisor to plan and schedule courses from both institutions. All academic and student services are available for you at the Meijer Campus in Holland.

Q: Can I qualify for financial aid if I attend GRCC and GVSU at the same time?
A:  Yes, GVSU and GRCC have concurrent enrollment agreements that allow students to combine credits at both institutions so that they qualify as full- or part-time students for federal financial aid. Your advisor will help you navigate the concurrent enrollment process.

Q: I took some college classes a long time ago and now I’m worried that my credits won’t transfer. Do college credits expire?
A: No! You earned them! You can transfer previously earned coursework from accredited colleges and universities and count them toward your degree!

Q: My G.P.A. was pretty low when I stopped attending college years ago. What role will my previous G.P.A. play in earning my degree?
A: It will play a part in determining your starting point. You’ll work with an advisor to determine the appropriate point of entry into the program.

Q: It has been a long time since I last took a college writing or math class; I’m wondering how I will know which courses to take now?
A: Your advisor will help you determine which courses will be most appropriate so that you will be successful as you pursue your degree. We offer placement tests and tutoring support as well.

Q: Will I have to take all of my classes at the Meijer Campus?
A: All required classes are offered at the Meijer Campus, however as a GRCC or GVSU student you are eligible to take classes at any of GRCC of GVSU’s locations.
