Description

This two-day workshop is designed for faculty who have a strong interest in developing an international virtual exchange (IVE) project for one or more of their courses during the 2024-25 academic year. The workshop will introduce participants to different models and examples of virtual exchange and demonstrate how they can use it to integrate high-impact global learning into their on-campus or virtual classrooms.

We will hear from faculty who have used virtual exchange in their courses, learn about useful technological tools and strategies for managing logistical challenges, and discuss considerations in finding teaching partners and implementing virtual exchange. A significant portion of the workshop will be devoted to hands-on project design, with the help of faculty experienced in virtual exchange and Instructional Design and e-Learning specialists. While participants should have an interest in using virtual exchange, it is not necessary to have experience with IVE or to have identified an international teaching partner.

Goals:

1. Learn about the benefits and models of virtual exchange.

2. Learn how to find an international teaching partner, design assignments and activities, and prepare students for the VE collaboration.

3. Draft a project design and map out plans for implementing it into an existing course.
