The Department of Art and Design is pleased to announce that it will be joining the Departments of Film & Video Production and Photography this coming August. This reorganization is aimed to better support the educational needs of students, faculty, and staff.
As of next Fall, we will be known as the Department of Visual and Media Arts. With a new name, please expect a freshly-designed website, and much more. The new department will have over 650 students and 40 full time faculty committed to learning and student excellence.

At Grand Valley State University, the Department of Art and Design encourages majors to explore and develop their individual sense of place as human beings in relationship to the world around them. The degree programs integrate the values of a liberal education while preparing graduates for intensive engagement with the production and examination of the visual arts.

If you would like to take an art course, but are not a major, there are many options available to you. These classes count as electives towards graduation. Many of them are also part of the the studio and art history minors. (Read more)
