EOS Opinion on Spain's Mountain Water Towers published

An opinion piece about protecting the mountain water towers of Spain's Sierra Nevada mountain range was published in the September issue of EOS by Bopi Biddanda, Mani Villar-Argaiz, and Juan Manuel Medina-Sánchez. The article talks about how important mountain snowfall in the winter is to summer freshwater supply for communities that surround the mountains. Such supplies are in danger and becoming more scarce as climate change alters weather patterns, especially for precipitation and snowfall. The role students and researchers play in monitoring the change in water quality as snowmelt flows down the mountain ranges is also discussed for its importance in building community awareness of the overall situation.
