If you’re looking to make the most of your time on campus, finding a job is a great way to earn some money while diving deeper into life at GVSU. These tips and tricks will point you in the right direction, allowing you to work in whatever environment is best for you. Learn how to take advantage of the tons of job-hunting resources that GVSU offers.

#1. Career Center

Although searching for a job can be tough, you’re not in this alone. The Career Center will give you info on student employment around campus, advice on interviews, and links to resources on marketability and job skills. You can also make an appointment with the Career Lab, which is filled with people who are trained to help you find a job and even look over your resume or cover letter with you. When it comes to gaining job and interview skills, the Career Center is the ultimate on-campus resource.

#2. Handshake

This website is a great resource that every student at GVSU can sign up with for free. Handshake takes the major or interests you list in your profile and uses the information to find jobs that fit your qualifications. It also lists upcoming job-related events hosted by the Career Center, like career fairs and practice interview days.

#3. Internships

Not all internships are paid, but they provide another option for you to look for while on the hunt. Many GVSU majors also require one to graduate, so it may be beneficial to check your major’s requirements and start looking early. Just like at the Career Center, GVSU’s internship coordinators, who are specialized in almost every department, can guide you through the process of finding an internship that’s right for you.

If you don’t have a specific job in mind, keep an eye out for any opportunity that comes your way. Even if one or two (or more) of the jobs you apply to don’t pan out, all of those interviews will give you valuable experience. In the meantime, make sure you explore everything the Career Center has to offer.
