An important part of Greek Life is providing students with the opportunity to meet, network, and connect with current and prior members of a fraternity or sorority in order to gain more skills and insight. According to Chris McQueen, the Associate Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Grand Valley, networking through Greek Life “will enhance [students’] development” and allow them more opportunities for growth.

“There are over 300+ student organizations on campus –– 300 ways to meet your best friend and explore something that you might have never had the chance to do before,” Chris says.

Community service is also an important part of Fraternity & Sorority life. Greek Life at Grand Valley donates $150,000 annually to charities, while also engaging in various service projects. Throughout the year, fraternities and sororities volunteer at different on and off-campus activities and organizations that help give back to a community that has given them just as much.

Finally, Greek Life fosters friendship that lasts lifetimes. Being united with others through similar value systems, interests, and identities allows people to build a community of friends that continue to support each other long after their time at Grand Valley has ended.

While some people think that Greek Life isn’t for them, all it takes is one great experience to change their mind and introduce them to a world of service, advocacy, and friendship. It’s not too late to register and get empowered with Greek Life!
