Fall is here, and Allendale is a hot spot for all sorts of classic autumn adventures. Check out our list of fall break activities that will help you take a well-deserved break from writing that essay and make sure this fall is one to remember.

Cider Mill

Apples in a tree.

What better way to kick off fall break than by heading to the nearest cider mill for some delicious donuts and piping hot cider? Luckily, Post Family Farms and Robinette’s are not far from campus!

Hike the Chill Away

The arboretum trail during fall.

Autumn is here and temperatures are beginning to drop, so stay warm by hiking an afternoon away with your closest friends! Rosy Mound in Grand Haven has a beautiful pathway with stairs that lead straight to the beach. Looking for something a bit more local? Grand Ravines Park is right off campus and is full of trails to explore. Or, if you’re not the hiking type, take some friends on a classy fall picnic in GVSU’s very own Arboretum.

Pumpkin Carving

An anchor jack-o-lantern.

With pumpkin patches aplenty in Allendale, it’s easy to pick out the perfect-sized pumpkin and start carving! Let your artistic side out with a wild design or go traditional with a classic face. Either way, you’ll have a beautiful new decoration that will really help you get into the fall spirit. You can even download one of our GV pumpkin carving stencils to make sure your pumpkin has as much Laker pride as you do!

Movie Night

Students watching a movie in the Big Screen Theater.

After spending a full day celebrating fall, there’s nothing cozier than curling up with a cup of hot apple cider and watching your favorite fall movies. So grab a blanket, find the comfiest spot on the couch, and press play!

Now is the perfect time to explore the greater Grand Rapids area and see what other fall activities the city has in store for you. And if you’d rather stay within walking distance of your bed, make sure to check out the events calendar for activities happening right here on campus!
