Battle of the Valleys 2018: Changing the World and Crushing the Competition

If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to simultaneously help struggling students and destroy our school’s rival, look no further. Battle of the Valleys is an annual tradition that started in 2003. Lakers spend a week competing against Saginaw Valley State University to see who can raise more money for a worthy cause. This year, the Battle takes place October 21 through 26, and there will be several opportunities for you to donate all over campus. The week will end in an epic, away football game between GVSU and SVSU.
This year, GVSU is raising money for Replenish, a resource that helps students who are dealing with short-term challenges when it comes to accessing food. GVSU has its own space for Replenish in Kirkhof 0074, the perfect place for students who need some help to come and access the vast variety of foods that have been donated. Battle of the Valleys is the perfect opportunity for Lakers to join together and donate to a brilliant cause that has the capacity to change the lives of many.
Battle of the Valleys consists of multiple different events that will allow you to have fun with your friends while also donating to a worthy cause. Join your fellow Lakers for Pumpkin Paint and Sip party on October 23, or head over to the Salem Corn Maze Fundraiser on October 26. On select days, grab some grub at your local Applebee’s or Buffalo Wild Wings to have a portion of your bill donated to the cause, or check out Pie Day in Kirkhof on October 24. Throughout the entire week, you’ll have the opportunity to buy Battle of the Valleys merchandise in Kirkhof including t-shirts and raffle tickets. You can also donate online throughout the entire week to show SVSU that Lakers know how to make a difference in the world!
This is your chance to show our whole community what it means to be a Laker. There’s nothing more powerful than a group of people being united by the common goal of making the world a better place and a little bit of friendly competition.
