Is RISE Right For Me?

The RISE program is designed to provide additional support (both financial and academic) to academically talented, low income/high financial need students interested in pursuing a STEM major. To figure out if the program is right for you, ask yourself the following questions.

  1. Am I planning to be an incoming freshman or CC transfer student at GVSU declaring a major in science*, technology, engineering or mathematics?
  2. Do I have a high school GPA that is 3.0 or above?
  3. Do I have questions or concerns about going to college and how to successfully navigate this new environment?
  4. Do I want to know more about what I can do with a STEM degree?

If you answered yes to those questions, then the RISE program may be just the thing for you.

In addition to progressively increasing annual scholarships, while funding is still available through our National Science Foundation grant, for students who maintain a 2.8 GPA, the RISE program will provide you with a STEM faculty mentor who is dedicated to helping you navigate GVSU and connect you with the people and resources to help you succeed. As part of the RISE program you will be part of a small cohort of other STEM students who together engage in courses and extra-curricular activities that help you explore the many career options available in the STEM field and provide assistance with looking and applying for paid internship and research experiences.
