Shingi Mavima
Shingi Mavima graduated from GVSU in 2010 with a B.A. in International Relations. He then received his M.A. from Penn State University. Currently he holds a PhD in African American studies from Michigan State University. His dissertation is titled "Popular Expressions of Pan-Africanism and Southern African Nationalism(s): Transformations, Tensions, and Reconciliations in South Africa and Zimbabwe."
In 2011, Shingi founded a non profit organization called CLUBHOUSE International. The mission of this organization is to advance communities in Zimbabwe through education, community service, and sports.
Currently Shingi works as an assistant professor of African history at the University of Toledo. He also published a novel, Pashena. The book, a semi-autobiographical tale, is available on Amazon.
