Matthew Brainovich

Matthew earned his degree from GVSU in 2013, double majoring in International Relations and Russian Studies. He spent the 2012-2013 academic year studying abroad at the Russian State University in Novosibirsk. Following graduation, Matthew completed an internship with the International Peace and Security Institute in Washington D.C. He went on to pursue his masters at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. While studying at Georgetown, he worked as a Corporate Security Consultant at the World Bank.

Matthew served as a Program Analyst in the National Preparedness Assessment Division at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from 2016-2022. He also worked as the Branch Chief in the National Risk and Capability Assessment Branch at FEMA (2022-2024). Since December 2024, he has been the Division Director for the Risk and Capability Assessments Division at FEMA.
