Koczak and Rusch Win Excellence-in-a-Discipline Awards

The GVSU Excellence-in-a-Discipline Awards honor one student in each major for academic achievement. Katie Koczak is the 2023 award winner for International Relations. She graduated in December with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and minors in Spanish and International Business. While at GVSU, Katie studied abroad in Málaga, Spain. She was also a member of the Cook Leadership Academy. Katie is currently working full-time as a paralegal at the Law Offices of Christopher Trainor and Associates. In the fall of 2023, she will attend law school at Michigan State University or Wayne State University. Katie has been offered a full tuition scholarship from Michigan State University College of Law.
The 2023 recipient for Political Science is Aaron Rusch, who completed his Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a minor in Public Administration in December. Among other activities while at Grand Valley, Aaron served on the Student Senate, was a member of the University Singers, and interned with the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission. He is now the Public Policy Coordinator for the YWCA of Kalamazoo.
Katie and Aaron and other award winners were honored at the Student Awards Convocation on Monday, April 10. Congratulations to Katie and Aaron!
