Terminal Cleaning Guidelines
Cleaning of Credit Card Terminals
The following provides general guidance on the proper cleaning procedures for Grand Valley State University credit card processing terminals.
Frequency: The frequency depends on where the terminal is placed and the number of people that come into contact with it.
- All terminals should be cleaned daily whether at the beginning or end of each day.
- If you are the only person using the terminal during the day then cleaning once a day will be sufficient.
- If more than one member of your staff will be using the terminal, then cleaning should be completed in between each user.
- If you have a forward-facing terminal that is utilized by multiple customers during the course of the day, then best efforts should be made to clean in between transactions.
Caution for Terminals (don’ts): Applicable for all VeriFone and Ingenico model terminals.
- Do not use aerosol sprays, bleach or abrasive products.
- Do not clean the terminal’s electrical connections.
