Document Delivery Policies
Document Delivery (or Interlibrary Loan) is a way for you to get the book, article, chapter, video, or other resource you need when it is unavailable through the University Libraries. For electronic scanning requests, you typically get your materials within a few days. For hardcopy materials, it can take longer, typically a week.
Document Delivery is offered to current GVSU Students, Faculty, Emeritus Faculty, Retirees, and Staff.
What can I get through Document Delivery?
- Articles and Book Chapters not owned by the University Libraries or available online.
- Books, videos, DVDs, and Theses that GVSU does not own or that are lost.
We cannot supply the following items through Document Delivery:
- Textbooks required for GVSU Classes
- Complete issues of journals
- Genealogy
- Physical books if we own the e-book version
- E-books or streaming media
- Course Reserve material
- Book chapters from GVSU-owned, circulating books

Borrowing Policies for Digital Copies and Borrowed Books, Music, DVDs, etc.
- Digital Copies are available to download for 14 days - please download and save a copy of the file to your computer.
- GVSU's Library honors the due date and any use restrictions specified by the supplying library. These restrictions include but are not limited to: in library use only, no renewals, short loan periods, or any other potential restriction the lending library imposes.
- You may request 1 renewal from the lending library, and renewals on borrowed items are done at the discretion of the lending library.
- Items more than 7 days overdue may not be renewed.
- If you have items more than 14 days overdue, your account will be blocked.
