CML - About

Due to a software upgrade, non-GVSU affiliates will not be able to borrow Curriculum Materials Library items beginning February 1st, 2021. This is a temporary pause in our borrowing and lending agreement with the Michigan eLibrary (MeLCat). Learn more about this service change.

The Curriculum Materials Library is part of the Grand Valley State University Libraries. We offer a sampling of high-quality, K-12 instructional materials, which are available for check out and use, primarily by the GVSU students and faculty.

Our collection is located in two areas. The Curriculum Materials Library (CML), located downtown Grand Rapids in the Richard M. DeVos Center, houses a diverse collection of puppets, teaching aids, big books, print materials and educational machines.  A collection of K-12 print materials is housed on the 4th floor of the Mary Idema Pew Library on the Allendale Campus.

Borrowing Policies at GVSU Libraries:

Borrowing Policies

Collection Policy for the Curriculum Materials Library

Our purchases are prioritized to make sure that materials which directly support course work are available at our location.  Materials selection criteria consider the potential use of the materials on both a current and a long-term basis. Materials should receive favorable reviews in the professional literature of a given subject field or in a standard review source. Materials should also support the current courses at GVSU.

Suggestions for purchase by faculty and students are followed up with a review search, if at all possible. Choice of each item is based on its relationship to the Curriculum Materials Library collections and its contribution to stated collection development policies.

Orientation Sessions

For the present, seating capacity in the CML has been reduced to five persons at a time to allow for social distancing. If you would like your class to visit the CML for an orientation or research instruction, we ask that you arrange to do so within current space guidelines. We will make every attempt to accommodate multiple sessions. These sessions will need to be scheduled in advance. Faculty must accompany students to sessions.

For more information, contact Gayle Schaub at (616) 331-2629 or [email protected]

Please review GVSU's Face Covering Policy regarding the use of masks and social distancing.
