Health Compliance

Before you can begin your nursing courses or participate in clinical experiences, you must complete all required health compliance steps. These requirements are not optional — they’re in place to protect you, your patients, and the healthcare settings where you’ll learn and practice. They are also mandated by state and federal regulations and by our clinical partners.

Completing your health compliance on time is essential. Students who fail to meet deadlines will be unable to attend clinical placements or progress in the program. Because several steps — like immunizations, titers, and TB testing — can take weeks or even months, we strongly encourage you to start early.

Two Places You’ll Need to Be Compliant

1. Viewpoint Health Portal

This is where you complete and track all your initial requirements for GVSU. You must keep your Viewpoint account up to date at all times. Even after your first semester. Certain items, like annual TB tests, CPR certification, or flu vaccines, will need to be updated regularly to maintain your compliance status.

2. Clinical Site Onboarding

Once you receive your clinical site assignment, you’ll also need to meet that organization’s onboarding requirements (example: ACEMAPP). Each healthcare organization manages requirements differently, so it’s important to follow instructions carefully.

Getting Started: Your Guide to a Smooth Process

Health Compliance Handout - Getting Started

Step 1

Create Your Health Portal

Follow the instructions in your Welcome Letter to set up your Viewpoint account. This is where you’ll upload documents, order screenings, and track progress.

Step 2

Confirm What You Already Have

Download your immunization records from MyChart, your provider, or MCIR to avoid repeating steps.

Step 3

Schedule Appointments Early

Book physicals, certifications, fingerprinting, drug screens, background checks, and vaccinations as soon as possible. Some require multiple visits or 7-10 day waiting periods for results.

Step 4

Tackle Easy Tasks

While waiting for appointments or results, begin with easy tasks, such as completing consent and release forms, accessing Blackboard modules, and any other requirements that only require a signature.

Step 5

Upload and Monitor Your Progress

Submit documents promptly and check your portal regularly for feedback or rejections. Missing full names and DOB is the #1 reason for rejection.

Step 6

Stay Organized and Ask for Help

Keep copies of everything, track upcoming deadlines, and contact [email protected] if you need support or are worried about deadlines.
