K-12 Connect Virtual Mentoring

GVSU K-12 Connect Virtual Mentoring is available for any junior or senior in high school. This program is a virtual 1:1 mentoring service that connects a current member of GVSU with a rising high school graduate that is seeking additional assistance with college preparation (e.g. applications, advice and expertise about the transition process, school support, etc.).

Students can choose their mentor and sign up for an initial session. Mentors will work with students to set up recurring sessions every other week moving forward and cover topics tailored to the needs of each individual student.

Students connect with mentors through the Zoom platform.

Follow These Steps to Find a Mentor

Step 1: Search and Sign Up

You can start the process of setting up your mentoring session by searching for an available mentor. (Please complete Step 2 to fill out a consent form)

Instructions for finding your mentor:

  1. Follow the button above to search for an available mentor. 
  2. Filter through the available mentors to find the right mentor to support your or your rising high school graduate.  
  3. Next, sign up for an appointment. When signing up, please do NOT create an account associated with a school email, as communication will likely bounce back (more detailed instructions below).

Remember, you are only signing up for your first initial session with your mentor. During your session, work with your mentor to determine the best day/time/length of sessions moving forward every other week. Your mentor will set them all up for you.  

Specific instructions on how to sign up and create an account profile are provided below:

  1. Choose the best date/time slot for your session.
  2. Click “Login using Personal Email”
  3. Login
    1. If it’s your first time using the system, click “Register” on the bottom left. DO NOT create an account using a school email, as communication will likely bounce back.
    2. If you are a returning user, sign-in with the email address and password you created when you first registered.
  4. Enter your cell phone number to receive a text reminder before your session.
  5. Answer the questions. Answers will be shared with your tutor/mentor.
  6. Click “Submit Reservation”

Step 3: Join and Learn

Join your first virtual mentoring session 10 minutes early through the Zoom link provided in your confirmation email. A call-in phone number is provided if wifi is unavailable. Students will begin in a waiting room until the receptionist is available to check them in and move them into their mentoring session.

Get to you know your mentor and share the college preparation areas you need support in! At the end of your time, work with your mentor to determine future sessions.

Step 4: Feedback

Complete the short survey that will be linked in a follow-up email. This will help K-12 Connect to continually improve the virtual mentoring program.
