What is the AI Collective?
Hosted at the futurEDlab
on the City Campus, the AI Collective is a
recurring, low-pressure, multidisciplinary forum driven by a
collaboration between faculty, staff and the IT Innovation + Research
team. It is designed for the GVSU community to discover, discuss,
explore, and experiment with AI in a low-stakes environment.
Our August Meetup
- When: Friday, August 28, 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
- Where: In-person at the futurEDlab in the Grandview Collaboration Hub (CEC 322, City Campus).
- Recording: This session will be recorded for future reference.
Agenda Highlights
In this meeting, we plan to continue conversations around AI at GVSU. Here is an outline for our time together:
- Community Builder (10 min): A quick icebreaker to share recent AI trials and successes.

Topic Presentation (20 min): Special guest
presenter, Allendale's own local powerhouse software development
company BizStream will
present to share the POV of what AI skills businesses expect from
today's graduates.

About BizStream and the speakers:

BizStream is a digital agency in Grand Rapids that's been building websites, custom software, and digital marketing services for 25 years, including current work with GVSU. -
How BizStream currrently uses AI:
Day to day, BizStream use AI for speeding up research, writing, and problem solving. On the technical side, BizStream uses it for coding, website builds, and application development, which lets them move faster and lets their developers focus on the harder, more interesting problems instead of repetitive work. They also help clients figure out how to show up when people search using AI tools like ChatGPT, not just Google. On top of that, they run regular internal training so the whole team keeps building real AI skills, versus just using AI as a buzzword.

About BizStream and the speakers:
- "Show & Tell" Demo (25 min): Back-to-school AI cheatsheet review and workshop. As we settle back into the semester, GVSU's AI Steering Team has been working on some easy-to-understand guides for faculty and students to help provide clarity on how to best integrate AI into teaching and learning strategies while still being in compliance with University policies. As a benefit of being part of this AI Collective group, we will present a sneak peek look a our draft one sheets for facutly and students and seek feedback regarding clarity and efficacy.
- Open Discussion & Q&A (30 min): Facilitated small-group conversations to tackle challenges, brainstorm ideas, and foster collaboration.
- Wrap-up (5 min): Key takeaways and a look ahead to next month.
