Potteiger brings support, leadership to role of dean for College of Health Professions

Provost Jennifer Drake announced the appointment of Jeffrey Potteiger as dean of the College of Health Professions. Potteiger had served as the interim dean since September.

Drake said Potteiger received overwhelming positive feedback from a survey she conducted with College of Health Professions colleagues and consultations with university academic leaders.

"Dr. Potteiger stepped into the interim dean role during a challenging time and has led with integrity, humility and consistency," Drake said. "I appreciate his leadership over these past several months and look forward to the work ahead and the continued success of the college."

Potteiger joined Grand Valley in 2010 as dean of the Graduate School and added duties as the university's research integrity officer and authorizing institutional official. He has served as vice provost for the Graduate School since 2016.

During his time at the College of Health Professions, Potteiger said he has greatly enjoyed working with students, faculty and staff, and clinical partners.

"These are people who are dedicated to their professions, exceptionally well-trained, caring and engaged in the community," he said.

CHP faculty and staff have been working on the college's strategic plan and Potteiger said that will carry over into the fall semester, identifying and prioritizing top goals. He added that it includes maintaining and enhancing relationships with clinical and community partners.

"It's become more competitive now when looking for community partners. We can help by continuing to do the best job possible to prepare students in the classroom and our incredible facilities, so they enter a clinical experience knowing how to interact with patients and other health care professionals," he said.
