GVSU students look forward to life downtown after City Campus move-in

While many students have already settled into life on the Valley Campus in Allendale, those living in Winter and Secchia halls on Grand Valley’s City Campus began their move-in process on August 22.

Among them is social work major Kaydence Culbertson, returning for her second year living downtown. She said she chose the City Campus for its vibrant atmosphere and easy access to all that Grand Rapids has to offer.

“It is fun to try good coffee shops, and you are close to downtown, so there is always stuff to do on the weekends,” she said.

With multiple move-ins already under her belt, Kaydence kept her move into Winter Hall as simple as possible, getting help from her boyfriend.

Maddie Coykendall, a third-year social work student, is experiencing life on the City Campus for the first time. Coykendall spent her first two years in Allendale while fulfilling general education requirements. With most of her classes downtown, she decided to switch to living in Grand Rapids.

“It is a new environment,” said Coykendall. “I am excited to really take a deep dive into my major and get to know the people who also have the same interests as me.”
