Grand Valley State University President Philomena V. Mantella traveled to Austin, Texas to take part in a panel at SXSW EDU . SXSW EDU is an annual event that attracts a wide range of attendees from the education sector to share their expertise, learn from each other, and engage in thought-provoking discussions about the future of education.

Mantella participated in a panel on Monday, March 4 entitled “Navigating a New Era in Higher Ed: Facts About the Future.” The discussion centered around several topics including:

  • What an effective leader in higher education looks like in the 2020s and beyond.
  • How higher education institutions can embrace innovation and technology to meet the evolving needs of students and the workforce.
  • How to create a more student-centric approach to education that focuses on personalized learning and enhanced student engagement.
  • How to improve teaching effectiveness and student engagement in light of technological advancements.

SXSW EDU was founded in 2011 on the belief that education has the power to inspire, elevate and change the future and is modeled after its parent organization South by Southwest®.
