GVSU sets tuition, room, board rates for 2024-2025, again among first of public universities to do so

As part of a commitment to finalize tuition, room and board earlier in the year to provide certainty to students and supporters about the costs to attend, Grand Valley's Board of Trustees on Friday approved tuition and room and board rates for 2024-2025.

This pledge takes on even more importance this year given changes with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which has caused nationwide delays in students learning about financial aid options. Grand Valley stands ready to help students through this process to help ensure access to an education, said President Philomena V. Mantella.

“Today, we demonstrated our commitment to providing transparency and the cost certainty that parents need by being one of the first universities in the state to share tuition information for the fall,” Mantella said. “This is especially vital right now with the challenges around FAFSA and we are proud that our Financial Aid Team is dedicated to helping families through this stressful time.”

The university's board approved tuition and fee increases of 3.5%. Housing and dining costs will rise by 5.2%. The Grand Valley cost for a residential undergraduate student remains in the bottom quarter of Michigan public universities.

Meanwhile, GVSU remains in the top quarter of public universities for standards that are important to students and families, such as completion rates and job placement rates, while fostering a culture of innovation and building programs that connect degrees to in-demand skills and job commitments from employers. Examples of that return on investment include the Corewell Health West Nurse Scholars and Laker Accelerated Talent Link programs.

The value of a Grand Valley experience, clarity of costs and support of families at all levels of financial needs underscore GVSU's commitment to educating students who will help propel Michigan forward, leaders said.

"President Mantella’s commitment to superior value, accessible cost and providing more transparency to our students and their families showcases the commitments of GVSU to deliver on the promise of public education to Michigan families," said Board Chair Susan M. Jandernoa. "Our advanced learning and innovative programs prepare students for a dynamic future where they will make positive impacts in their communities and beyond."
