A celebration of life service is planned at Grand Valley for Mary Seeger, retired dean and professor emerita of modern languages and literatures.

Seeger died June 11 after being in hospice care; she was 79.

The celebration will be Monday, June 24, from 1-3 p.m. at the Alumni House on the Allendale Campus. Remarks will be made at 2 p.m.

Mary and Wilhelm (Bill) Seeger arrived to teach German at Grand Valley in 1965. Seeger retired in 2005 as dean of Academic Resources and Special Programs and professor of modern languages and literatures. When she was named dean in 1989, she was the first woman to hold that position on campus.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mary and Wilhelm Seeger Scholarship Endowment at Grand Valley.
